2023 marks the landmark 100th anniversary of the Flying Scotsman, the most famous steam locomotive in the world. The cover centrepiece features a brand new 2023 commemorative £2 coin expertly struck to a Brilliant Uncirculated finish by the prestigious Royal Mint. The 12-gram coin reverse has been designed by one of the UK’s most experienced coinage artists, John Berdahl. It features the Flying Scotsman with steam coming from the locomotive, illustrating its speed and movement. The edge inscription reads ‘LIVE FOR THE JOURNEY’, perfectly encapsulating the romantic sentiment of travelling on the world-famous steam locomotive. While on the obverse is the official, new portrait of His Majesty King Charles III by Martin Jennings.

Perfectly complimenting the official Royal Mint coin is a complete collection of eight brand-new commemorative stamps issued by the Royal Mail. Each stamp features a full-colour image of the Flying Scotsman in action. The stamps are cancelled on the very first day of issue – 9th March 2023 – using a specially designed Flying Scotsman handstamp which sets in stone the worldwide edition limit of 10,000 covers.
