1953 Queen Elizabeth II Complete Coronation Stamp Collection

  Description    Specifications      Free Delivery

Complete collection of stamps released to mark the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II

The coronation of Queen Elizabeth II took place on 2nd June 1953 at Westminster Abbey following the death of her father King George VI the previous year. To commemorate this landmark moment in our Royal history, the Crown Agents’ Offices in London co-ordinated an impressive worldwide issue of coronation stamps, during an era without the convenience of the internet or fax.

In total sixty-eight countries participated and released 106 stamps. For most of the countries a classic portrait of a young Queen by Dorothy Wilding, a noted English society photographer was selected as the ‘key plate’ design and a ‘duty plate’ was used to alter the country name and denomination.

Bahrain, Eastern Arabia, Tangier and Kuwait utilised the actual British stamps and overprinted the country name and the value of the stamp. Finally, to complete this impressive collection, 11 countries including Canada, Australia and New Zealand commissioned their own design to commemorate this historic Royal occasion.

All 106 stamps, which are over 60 years old are in pristine, unused condition. They are very difficult to source and time consuming to put together in this complete collection. All stamps are housed in a luxury presentation folder with certificate.

The significance of the Queen’s coronation, her recent landmark achievement of becoming the longest reigning British monarch and her upcoming 90th birthday celebrations are a key reason why these omnibus stamps are in very high demand today. Due to the difficulty of sourcing these stamps, we have very limited numbers available.
