2025 marks 80 years since Victory in Europe (VE) Day, when the Second World War ended in Europe and peace was declared after years of devastating conflict. To honour the immense bravery and sacrifices made during the war, the Royal Mail has issued a special limited-edition coin cover: Valour and Victory – Stories of the Second World War.

The centrepiece is the official UK 2025 50p coin struck to a brilliant uncirculated finish by the Royal Mint. The reverse of the coin features three iconic Second World War medals – the 1939–1945 Star, the Defence Medal, and the War Medal – which represent the gallantry and service of millions from Britain and the Commonwealth. The obverse bears the official portrait of King Charles III by Martin Jennings.

Accompanying the coin is a full set of ten commemorative 1st Class Royal Mail stamps, each honouring a real-life story of courage and contribution during the war. From codebreakers and fighter pilots to medics and resistance fighters, these individuals embody the collective spirit of resilience that defined Britain’s war effort.
