Stunning limited edition Gold Proof coin cover issued to mark the globally historic 50th anniversary of the very first Moon Landing

On 20th July 1969 the Apollo 11 space flight successfully touched down on the Sea of Tranquillity and landed on the Moon. The Mission Commander, Neil Armstrong, walked into the history books and became the very first human to step foot on the Moon. This moment was immortalised by his legendary words ‘one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind’, which was broadcast live worldwide to an estimated half billion TV audience – the largest ever at the time.

In 2019, to mark the 50th anniversary of the very first successful moon landing, a stunning limited edition coin cover has been issued. At its centrepiece, it features a brand new, limited edition £1 gold coin struck to the very highest proof finish in 22 carat gold. The reverse features an image of an astronaut looking back at Earth from the Moon inspired by Neil Armstrong’s first steps.

To perfectly complement this coin, the cover includes the original 1969 United States 10 cents stamp issued to commemorate the very first moon landing printed from a master die that travelled to the moon with Neil Armstrong and his pilot Buzz Aldrin. A first-class definitive stamp is cancelled on 1st January 2019 using a specially designed moon landing handstamp – setting in stone the low worldwide edition limit of only 99 covers.

The global demand for Moon Landing commemoratives and the low worldwide edition limit are two key reasons why the cover is in very high demand. Harrington & Byrne has managed to secure a small number of these attractive covers to offer today.
