Fantastic opportunity to own the second ever British commemorative stamps issued for the 9th Postal Union Congress in 1929

The ninth Postal Union Congress was held in London on 10th May 1929 and was a formal meeting of the Universal Postal Union. It was attended by representatives of most of the world’s major postal authorities. To commemorate this four-yearly event, the British Post Office released a collection of stamps which were used to help raise funds for the event and were also given as a gift to delegates of the congress.

This collection was issued over 85 years ago and includes four commemorative stamps ranging from 1/2d green to 2&1/2d blue. The lowest and highest value stamps in this collection feature a portrait of the reigning monarch, King George V in an oval. The 1d red and 1&1/2d brown feature the King’s portrait with the Union Jack in the background, a very patriotic design. All four stamps are in pristine, unused condition and are highly sought-after by collectors due to their attractive design.

The stamps are very significant in British philatelic history as they were only the second ever British commemorative stamps to be released, five years after the famous British Empire Exhibition stamp issue.

The attractive nature and rarity of these stamps which are over 85 years old are key reasons why they are in high demand today. Indeed, as a result of this continued demand, the Stanley Gibbons catalogue value has risen 46% over the past 20 years and is a must have for any collector.
